Aff535 Pattern

This is a complex pattern but made up of simple parts to give a strong Belle Epoque 2 look and also with a strong sense of order and of repeating elements that take the eye from side to side as you view this swatch. This is, of course, a pattern that is designed for wrapping paper or possibly paper used to make gift bags.

The elements to create this design come from my stock of reusable motifs and, for that reason, many of the elements are mid-century in their inspiration. The colours that are used are also taken from my mid-century palette and represent the kind of colours that would have been in use in the United Kingdom in the mid-century years.

Personally, whenever I use wrapping paper, I like to position the paper as straight as I can depending upon the object that I am wrapping and for this reason I prefer wrapping paper that has a strong sense of direction. The alternative is to produce a design which is much more random and, although I do produce patterns like this, I find them less satisfactory for this purpose.

If you wish, you can also see larger versions of this and, of course, my other designs and patterns for interiors on my Flickr page, a link to which is here.
