Squares Pattern

Mid-century inspired square derived surface patternThis pattern is inspired by the fabulous and innovative patterns that appeared with the new generation of post-war designers in the 1950s. As such, it is inspired by the artwork of the time, the artwork that went before, and also, I feel, by the fantastic heritage of design that appeared in Europe with the beginning of the 20th century.

Based on squares, the design seeks to lead the eye into the pattern by using successively smaller square areas. This means that the design would make an excellent pattern for home furnishings or wall-coverings or, I feel, a whole variety of other decorative purposes.

The colours are from the standard mid-century palette but I have tried, as I always do, to choose carefully and make them more relevant to today.

If you wish, you can also see larger versions of this and, of course, my other designs and patterns for interiors on my Flickr page, a link to which is here.
