Disturbing Small-Scale Pattern

Mid-century Inspired Pattern

Disturbing Small-Scale Pattern

This is a simple, small-scale pattern using browns and yellows which is designed to be used in the small and, before you comment, it was also intended to look less than usual.

In fact, the way that the motif is generated gives, I hope, a slightly disturbing and unusual look to the overall design. So, why would anyone want to create a pattern such as this? The idea is to produce a design, possibly for furnishing or possibly as a cushion fabric, that has an element of discord in order to make the visitor curious and to provide a sense of drama for their user.

This could, I feel, also be used very effectively in a corporate environment in order to get away from the normal corporate easy look and so create something unusual, noticeable and effective.

The colours are mid-century, and the motif is a simple collection of shapes that would have been available to the mid-century designer.

If you would like to see larger versions of these designs and my other work then you can do so on my Flickr page, a link to which is here.
