Mid-century Inspired Pattern

Leaves And Things Upholstery Swatch

Furniture coverings mid-century tended to be rather drab versions of what had gone before but a few designers did turn their hands to producing something that was a little more interesting.

Looking at the designs, I tried to produce something that was mid-century inspired yet looked modern enough to be useful today. This pattern was intended as a furniture design from the outset and I tried to create something that looks warm and inviting as much as it does traditional and easy-on-the-eye.

The colours are from the mid-century palette but are a little unusual; pink haze for the background and then poppy red, tawny red, silver and finally clover leaf for the motif. Used as a covering on the sofa shown above, it looks nice, I think, against the wooden rails and arms.

If you would like to see larger versions of these designs and my other work then you can do so on my Flickr page, a link to which is here.
