Mid-century Inspired Pattern

Retrospective Dark

Mid-century patterns and designs were full of innovation inspired by the upsurge of new talent, the movement and mixing of artists from many cultures and, of course, from a love and appreciation of the past.

This pattern, while mid-century in its composition and style, also uses older and more formal elements for its motifs which give it, I hope, a charm and grace present in older designs.

For some reason I did not complete my notes at the time, perhaps because the colour scheme is so simple, but it looks like chocolate for the background and magnolia for the motif colour.

So far as usage is concerned, I perhaps saw this as a cool, stylish and elegant fabric that would be either for fashion or, perhaps more likely, for home furnishings such as cushions and bedwear.

If you would like to see larger versions of these designs and my other work then you can do so on my Flickr page, a link to which is here.
