Brown Mid-Century Design

Mid-century inspired pattern

Brown Mid-Century Design

One really nice element of mid-century design that seems to have been lost now are the patterns that borrowed motifs from much older, in many cases Victorian, ideas.

I try not to preserve the older look but to give these patterns a sense of mid-century while trying also to use some of the nicest and simplest elements. Here the design uses some mature motifs to produce a busy yet attractive decorative feature design that I hope appears mid-century while retaining an older and prettier aspect.

Today, of course, we would not think of putting this on our walls as wallpaper but the design would be used for accessories or for wrapping paper – a market that does benefit from the mid-century look that is fast becoming very popular.

If you would like to see larger versions of these designs and my other work then you can do so on my Flickr page, a link to which is here
