The purpose of wallpaper is to provide decoration for the walls of our houses to both make them more attractive than simple plain paint and so that we can show the world the type of person that we are from our choice of pattern and colour.

This room is obviously upmarket and the wallpaper is used to make a statement and to leave a visitor in little doubt as to the sort of person who resides there. The design is based on mid-century colours and to an extent on mid-century motifs and ideas although the way the pattern is constructed and the way that the colours are used is much more modern.

As well as showing how it is possible to blend more modern tastes with older values, this room also shows, I think, how it is possible to make a room which you would immediately say was very masculine. I do, I admit, find it easier to work with colours that have a male dominance and I frequently have to hold that in check but here I have done the opposite and produced what is, in essence a room for myself for that lovely day when I finally get to retire to a nice Italian or French luxury apartment.

As ever, you can also see larger versions of this and, of course, my other designs and patterns on my fabulous and ever-growing Flickr page which is here.
