Moving Day

scene01_1000I was quite genuinely surprised at how small the last apartment was that I created and so I decided to go back to making something a little larger.

This project was intended to be a bigger apartment but it mysteriously evolved, really without my trying, into a house project. You can see the scene above, this is a large living area with a kitchen/dining area to the left hand side and large patio windows opening out onto a sun area with a rather big pool behind.

This room is a lot bigger, it is some 8 m (or around 26 feet) wide and towards the same in-depth. In fact, to make the modelling easier, the floor area is 8 m x 8 m although this is too big for a living area and when I use this scene for other work I shall undoubtedly make the room a little less deep.

Today is moving day, the contractors are busy moving in the furniture and making the rooms spick-and-span ready for occupation. I decided, as this was a new project, that it might be more interesting to show the room in this way and then add it to my stock of sets to use rather than simply make it magically appear sometime in the future.

For those that are interested in such things, the set was modelled in Cinema 4D and this program was used for the render. Everything in the image was modelled by me and for the most part the textures are image-based with some being created in Filter Forge. The background image was taken by my son on a day when there was little sunshine and this is reflected (I hope) in the lighting. I have to admit to it being rather fun to make the room in this way and I think that this will help me when I come to consider the decorations that I shall use inside.

You can also see larger versions of this and my other work on my Flickr page which is here.
