Gosling Cushions

Mid-century fabrics and wallpaper have a certain look to them which immediately let you know that the design came from that particular period.

This design uses motifs that were popular in the first half of the 1970s and so this puts the design right at the end of the mid-century period, some may say it is just outside. Patterns like this were popular with wallpapers and were used at quite a large-scale on all the walls of the room to produce an effect that would horrify modern householders – even those with a fondness for mid-century design!

Rather than subject you to wallpaper, I have taken a step further and produced this pattern on cushions, again at quite a large-scale. The effect is eye-catching as are the midcentury colours of crimson, chocolate and lovely nightshade.

In my set, which comprises just the sofa and chair, you can see at once how these cushions can be used to create really quite sumptuous and eye-catching detail. Whilst I would not advocate using all three cushions in one room, each one of them can be used to create a small island of colour which can then be echoed by other similar elements.

As ever, you can also see larger versions of this and my other work on my Flickr page which is here. The cushions themselves are available to buy in three good sizes on Redbubble and the link is here.
