Wallpaper 1970s Style

Colour and chaos reached its peak in the 1970s with some of the most intrusive and spectacular wallpapers that have ever been produced.

The 1950s and the 1960s was a time of innovation with a number of new designs and colours that had not been seen before. But the 1970s was the implementation of these designs and colours. There appeared to be no limit in what was possible and some of the schemes would, to modern eyes, appear outlandish.

This is the mid-century living room than I have used extensively taken to its 1970s extremes. This was the pinnacle of modern design and colour and the succeeding decades would only take design back, both in colour and pattern, to its blancmange present-day look. So was the 1970s better? Was it more interesting, more exciting? I don’t know but it certainly makes you feel alive even to look at this room let alone have wallpaper like this around you.

You can also see larger versions of this and our other work on our Flickr page which is here.
