A 70s Style Carpet

Carpet textures for 3D work are notorious difficult to make so I was pleased that this carpet texture turned out so well.

This mid-century design follows 1970s carpet styles when patterns were present on almost all carpets you could buy. As the decades wore on, patterning seems to have gotten less and less prevalent until today it is hard to find a carpet that has a pattern at all! However, in the 1970s all that was to come and patterned carpet, after the excesses of the 1960s, had settled down to become a firm favourite. It is this settled period of mature patterning that this design tries to emulate when simple shapes and rich colouring were to be found in most rooms of the house.

The design was created in Xara Designer while the room was put together in Cinema 4D which was used for the render.

You can also see larger versions of this and our other work on our Flickr page which is here.
