A restrained 1960s wallpaper design

Wallpaper in the late 1960s and 70s was outrageous in it’s design and colouring but not everyone wanted to be that bold.

Many people wanted their rooms to look modern but didn’t want to go overboard with the new designs and patterns that were appearing. This pattern is a simple one but the colours are what places it at the end of the 60s decade or beginning of the 1970s. Although you see brightly coloured and patterned designs on period images now in fact, as you imagine, not everyone was so brave, many people preferred a simple design with bright colours.

This pattern is shown as wallpaper and is used in the bedroom where it looks good against the plain wall. I doubt that the owner of this room would have wanted it on all walls but as a feature it sets off the room nicely. It was a staple paper design that would have been almost a perennial even up to today and would simply have changed colour to reflect the trends of the time.
