Late 1960s style wallpaper

An explosion in design happened in the later half of the 1960s and this pattern represents the first steps along a route that was to change the look of fabrics and wall-coverings forever.

The pattern itself is a simple one but it is used at a large-scale and in colours much more saturated than were the norm throughout the 1950s and early 1960s. The effect, so far as interior decoration was concerned, was to create much more memorable rooms that stood out from what was then considered normal. Living in such a room may well have seemed garish but after a month or so the inhabitants were more or less immune to whatever large patterns surrounded them.

These first tentative steps were quickly echoed and the patterns became more elaborate and much more eye-catching as the decade changed to the 1970s. It was an exciting time and it is doubtful whether fashions have ever changed at quite so rapid a rate.

To make this post more interesting two different colours are shown. The red is the real late-1960s pattern whilst the lighter coloured example shows the effect of using a large-scale pattern but without the contrast.

The design was created in Adobe Illustrator and the scene produced and rendered in Cinema 4D.
